EDEN WALK |
Eden Walk confronts the haphazard evolution of the urban landscape where the skyline is at the mercy of the town planner and the vagaries of commerce and parochial politics. The viewer is placed in the back streets and alleys where the clean architectural visions that dictate the public face of buildings are forgotten but where the backstage melting pot of construction and dereliction takes on an almost organic quality. This is viewed in contrast to the formal and saccharin motif of the roses, glimpsed between the panels as a reminder of the desire for order and perfection which manifests itself in parody and compromise.
Perfumed rose oil was burnt during the exhibition adding to the construct of appropriation from nature another sensory layer.
